Writing a will
Making a will allows you to make important decisions that affect your family and dependants after your death. A will can spare your loved ones unnecessary work and heartache at a time when they are least able to cope with it.
As an NASUWT member, you have access to a free online wills portal, operated by BBH Legal Services/Thompsons Solicitors on behalf of the NASUWT. The portal allows you to generate your own will, as well as a mirror will for your spouse or partner, free of cost in your own time and at your convenience.
A reduced-rate will writing service is also provided by the NASUWT for members’ families.
If your will is complex, you will be referred to a wills specialist for advice on a bespoke will, for which there will be a discounted fee payable if you wish to go ahead. BBH reserve the right to make a charge if your will contains complex tax provisions or you make substantial changes once the will has been drafted.
If you are a member in England, Northern Ireland and Wales, you can use Thompsons online portal to start writing your free will.
If you are a member in Scotland, please use Thompsons Scotland’s separate facility to start your free will.
Probate administration and lasting power of attorney
A reduced rate probate administration and lasting power of attorney (LPA) service is also available to NASUWT members and their families. You will only need to complete a simple questionnaire.
Call Thompsons Solicitors on 0808 100 2221 to request an information pack or for more information go to the Thompsons web page.
To access these services, you will need to provide your name, contact details and your NASUWT membership number. If there is a problem with your membership or you do not know your membership number, please log in to access your online e-Membership record or email the NASUWT Membership Team.
