NASUWT is the largest teachers’ union in the Isle of Man (IOM), representing over 600 teachers and lecturers across the island.

NASUWT has achieved substantial improvements in the pay and conditions of teachers in the Isle of Man, including:

  • pay scales being increased to match the London Fringe scales plus a 4% Manx weighting on top;

  • a Working Time Agreement (WTA) that introduced a defined 35-hour working week for Manx teachers;

  • a full review of terms and conditions, including rarely cover, ensuring these are fit-for-purpose and operating in line with our expectations.

NASUWT negotiates with the Department for Education, Sport and Culture (DESC), through the Partnership Forum (PF) and Joint Consultative Committee, and the Isle of Man Government through the Industrial Relations Forum.

The PF is currently undertaking a full review of Teaching and Learning Responsibility points (TLRs) to ensure they are consistently and fairly awarded, as well as continuing to refine the WTA and review a range of other policies and procedures.
