Pay Scales for England, excluding London and the Fringe
The Government has implemented a pay freeze for all qualified teachers in England and the 2021/22 qualified teacher pay scales are identical to the 2020/21 pay scales for this reason.
The Government’s teachers’ pay freeze is completely unacceptable to the NASUWT and the Union is campaigning and organising against it. Materials relating to the NASUWT campaign on teachers’ pay are available on our England Pay Award page.
Some unqualified teachers have received a pay increase for 2021/22 and the NASUWT’s unqualified teacher pay scales have been updated below.
We have also set up separate salary scales for members who work in Inner and Outer London and the Fringe.

The School Teachers’ Review Body (STRB) recommended that no pay uplift be applied to the maximum values on the Leadership Group Pay Range (LGPR) or to maximum values on any of the eight head teacher group pay ranges in 2015.
This restriction was applied to the maximum of each the eight head teacher group pay ranges only. It does not apply where a head/deputy/assistant head teacher is not earning the maximum on a head teacher group pay range, but is placed on one of the corresponding points on the LGPR - L18, L21, L24, L27, L31, L35 or L39, which have all increased by 1% in each year between 2014 and 2017, by 1.5% in 2018, by 2.75% in 2019, and by 2.75% in 2020.
The NASUWT salary scales are completely consistent with the DfE's national advisory pay points.
