The NASUWT Reps Education Summit and Training Event brings together Workplace Representatives and activists from across England to help shape the next phase of our Fix Our Future: Fund Education campaign and strengthen the Union’s presence in every workplace.
This one-day event will provide an opportunity to hear directly from NASUWT leadership, learn from successful organising activity, share experiences with fellow representatives, and develop practical skills to support members and build stronger workplace organisation.
The summit will focus on how representatives can play a leading role in securing positive change for teachers and schools, whilst helping to ensure that every member has a voice in the workplace.
You will have the opportunity to:

Hear about the Union’s priorities and campaigning objectives for the coming year.

Learn from successful organising and campaigning activity taking place in schools and colleges across the country.

Share experiences and ideas with other activists from your region.

Take part in practical workshops focused on strengthening workplace organisation and building member engagement.

Acquire practical tools, resources and actions that can make a real difference in your workplace.
Whether you are an experienced activist or new to your representative role, the summit will provide practical tools, training and support to help you make a difference in your workplace.

Why is NASUWT requesting time off for representatives to attend this event?
The Reps Education Summit and Training Event is designed to support accredited NASUWT Representatives in carrying out their representative functions effectively.
The event will provide training, information, networking opportunities and practical tools to help representatives support members, engage constructively with employers, and contribute positively to workplace relations.
Who is being invited to attend?
The event is primarily aimed at accredited NASUWT Workplace Representatives, Health and Safety Representatives and other recognised union activists.
Is attendance at the event considered a trade union duty?
NASUWT considers attendance to be directly connected to representatives’ trade union functions and responsibilities, including supporting members, promoting effective communication and developing representative skills and knowledge.
Are employers required to grant time off?
The Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 provides accredited trade union representatives with the right to reasonable paid time off to undertake trade union duties and training.
Decisions regarding individual requests remain a matter for the employer, taking account of operational requirements and the circumstances of the workplace.
Will NASUWT reimburse supply cover costs?
No. As with other trade union duties and training activities, NASUWT does not reimburse schools or colleges for the cost of providing cover.
How long is the event?
The event takes place on Tuesday 7 July 2026.

Registration opens from 8.30am.

The programme begins at 10am.

The event concludes at approximately 3.30pm.
Will representatives need overnight accommodation?
Some representatives travelling longer distances may require overnight accommodation.
Where accommodation arrangements are made by NASUWT, this will be organised directly between the Union and the representative
How will attendance benefit my school or college?
Representatives attending the event will receive up-to-date information, training and resources to support their role.
This can help strengthen communication between staff and management, improve understanding of workplace issues, and support constructive approaches to resolving concerns locally.
What topics will be covered?
The programme will include sessions on:

workplace organisation;

employee relations;

workload;
-
health and safety;

equality matters;
-
member engagement; and
-
current issues affecting teachers and schools.
The event will also provide opportunities for representatives to share good practice and learn from successful workplace initiatives.
Will representatives be absent from the workplace for more than one day?
The event itself takes place over one day.
Most attendees will only require release for Tuesday 7 July 2026, although some representatives travelling significant distances may need to travel on the preceding day.
