NASUWT-supported international ‘designated days’

The NASUWT is committed to international solidarity, equality and justice for all workers. The Union continues to mark a key dates in the calendar and to promote these dates to members, activists and schools/colleges.

Holocaust Memorial Day - 27th January

The day of remembrance for the victims of the Holocaust and of other genocides, it commemorates victims, honours survivors and commits to tackling prejudice, discrimination and racism.

International Women’s Day - 8th March

International Woman's Day is a major day of global celebration for the economic, political and social achievements of women. The TUC believes that it should be a public holiday.

Workers Memorial Day - 28th April

Every year more people are killed at work than in wars. They die because an employer decided their safety just wasn't that important a priority. Workers’ Memorial Day commemorates those workers.

International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia - 17th May

The International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, IDAHOBIT, is a day recognised across the globe, where people come together to raise awareness of the violation of rights that the LGBTI community continues to face.

World Day Against Child Labour - 12th June

The World Day against Child Labour aims to raise awareness of the problem and to focus attention on actions required to tackle it including a focus on education.

World Teachers’ Day - 5th October

A day to celebrate teachers and the central role they play in guiding children, youths and adults through the life-long learning process. Over 100 countries celebrate World Teachers’ Day.

World Mental Health Day - 10th October

A day to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilise efforts in support of mental health. 

International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women - 25th November

An opportunity to organise activities to raise public awareness of the problem of violence against women and to continue to campaign against the problem. The White Ribbon Campaign seeks to ensure men take more responsibility for reducing the level of violence against women.
