NASUWT-supported international ‘designated days’

The NASUWT is committed to international solidarity, equality and justice for all workers. The Union continues to mark key dates in the calendar and to promote these dates to members, activists and schools/colleges.

27 January - Holocaust Memorial Day

The day of remembrance for the victims of the Holocaust and other genocides, we seek to commemorate victims, honour survivors and commit to tackling prejudice, discrimination and racism.

8 March - International Women’s Day

International Women's Day is a major day of global celebration for the economic, political and social achievements of women, building on its roots in campaigns for better pay and voting rights for women.

28 April - International Workers’ Memorial Day

Every year, we take part in remembering all those who have died or been injured at work or as a result of their workplace environment. All workplaces should be healthy and safe environments and having an active union in a workplace is a benefit to teachers and employers.

17 May - International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia

The International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, IDAHOBIT, is a day recognised across the globe, where people come together to raise awareness of the violation of rights that the LGBTI community continues to face.

12 June - World Day Against Child Labour

The World Day against Child Labour aims to raise awareness of the problem and to focus attention on the growing worldwide movement against child labour, emphasising the link between social justice and child labour.

5 October - World Teachers’ Day

On this day, we celebrate teachers and the central role they play in guiding children. It is a day to celebrate how teachers transform education and to reflect on the support they need to use their talent and to rethink the way ahead for the profession globally.

10 October - World Mental Health Day

A day to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilise efforts in support of mental health.

25 November - International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

An opportunity to raise public awareness of the persistent problem of violence against women and girls and to commit to securing an end to it. The White Ribbon Campaign seeks to ensure men take more responsibility for reducing the level of violence against women.
