The NASUWT is clear that inspection should be undertaken in a way that supports the work of teachers and school leaders in raising standards and ensuring that all children and young people can access their right to high-quality learning experiences.

The NASUWT recognises that inspection can be challenging and has produced practical tools that you can use to assess the appropriateness of the way in which inspection is undertaken in your school or setting.

The Scottish Government’s National Improvement Framework has resulted in significant changes to the school accountability system.

For further information, see the Scottish Government's Education: Improvement Framework and Plan - 2021.

With the move to a new independent school inspectorate from late 2025, there is a promise of a new and revised inspection framework to replace How Good Is Our School 4. NASUWT will engage fully with this and encourage members to do the same.
