Ofsted introduced significant changes to the inspection framework and handbooks from September 2019. These changes include:

  • a stronger focus on the workload and wellbeing of teachers and leaders and the support they receive to undertake their responsibilities effectively;

  • less reliance on settings' internally generated learner assessment data in forming judgements about the effectiveness of provision;

  • greater stress on the intent, implementation and impact of the curriculum; and

  • seeking the views of a wider range of setting staff in evaluating learner student behaviour.

The NASUWT is clear that these changes to the inspection framework are welcome and will help to ensure that inspection addresses important concerns raised with the Union by teachers and leaders.

The NASUWT will continue to engage with Ofsted on the implementation of the revised inspection framework. The Union is encouraging teachers and leaders who have experienced a recent inspection to complete a short survey on their experiences.

You can complete the survey anonymously or you can leave contact details if you are prepared to discuss your inspection or your settings’ responses to changes to the inspection framework in more detail.

All information shared with Union will be treated in the strictest confidence.

You should email the Member Support Advice Team for advice and information if you have any personal concerns about an inspection-related issue.
