Teachers should only be expected to attend an open evening where it forms part of the directed time calendar for the academic year.

Where there is an expectation placed on a teacher to attend an open evening as part of the directed time calendar, schools will need to be cognisant of its obligations under the Working Time Regulations 1998, specifically the right to a minimum rest period of 11 consecutive hours in a 24-hour period.

As such, schools may have to open later the following day to allow a sufficient break for staff.
