This weekend, many of our LGBTI members, along with their friends, families and allies, will be attending Pride events across the UK, including Brighton Pride, the UK’s largest Pride celebration.
Following the horrific terrorist attack at Berlin Pride, we know that many people in our community may be feeling a mixture of sadness, anger and anxiety. An attack on Pride is an attack on the values of equality, inclusion and freedom that trade unions have long championed.
NASUWT stands in unwavering solidarity with our LGBTI members and with the wider LGBTI community. We remember those affected by the events in Berlin and send our deepest condolences to the victims, their families and everyone impacted.
Pride has always been about visibility, community and the collective belief that everyone deserves to live, work and learn free from discrimination, hatred and violence. Those values are shared by our union and remain as important today as ever.
To every member attending Pride this weekend: we hope you have a safe and enjoyable time celebrating who you are. Know that your union stands proudly alongside you, not just during Pride, but every day of the year.
