Equalities Legislation and Exclusion of Pupils Who Have a Disability BANNER.png

Responding to the latest report from the Public Accounts Committee, NASUWT General Secretary Matt Wrack said:

“The Government must urgently set out how it will fund SEND transport sustainably and support councils facing mounting pressures. Without real investment and a joined‑up plan these reforms risk failing the very children they claim to help.

“This report exposes how the Government’s SEND reforms will leave huge funding gaps and don’t provide an effective plan to deal with the current soaring costs faced by councils.

“Writing off past debts will mean nothing if local authorities are left in the dark about how they will cope financially between now and 2028.

“Teachers want every child to access the support they need close to home, but that requires investment, capacity and functioning local services. Instead, the DfE is banking on long‑term savings from reforms that may take years to materialise, while children and families struggle right now with shrinking provision and declining transport options.”
