Commenting on reports that Ofsted will move forward with its new inspection framework in November despite multiple calls for delay, and will also publish its consultation results later than planned, Matt Wrack, Acting General Secretary for NASUWT – The Teachers’ Union, said:
“When Ofsted wants answers, teachers have no choice but to comply – often at great expense to their wellbeing. But when teachers want answers from Ofsted, they are met with silence.
“If Ofsted has so many responses to its consultation that it needs to delay publishing the results, it is only logical that it also delays the launch of the new inspection framework. Anything else would render the consultation process a farce.
“The proposed new regime fails to address issues with teacher workload, school improvement and SEND inclusion, and doesn’t even acknowledge one of the key drivers of inspection reform: the death of headteacher Ruth Perry. Too many teachers have stories of Ofsted inspections destroying their mental health.
“We are once again asking that Ofsted delay the launch of its new inspection framework to allow for further pilot schemes and engagement with unions.”
