NASUWT – The Teachers’ Union is delighted to announce the signing of the first Working Time Agreement in an independent school in Scotland at St Aloysius College in Glasgow.

The Agreement, signed by NASUWT and sister teacher unions, uses and adapts the model familiar in state schools in Scotland, where local union representatives and school management negotiate and agree limits on some of the key drivers of workload in schools, such as the time committed to pupil reports and parents' meetings.
  
Matt Wrack, NASUWT General Secretary, said:

“Working Time Agreements are an acknowledgement that teachers and pupils mutually benefit when agreed reasonable limits are in place to manage teacher workload and set out how teachers’ non-class hours are allocated.

“Teachers are better able to focus on meeting the needs of pupils and help them to thrive and succeed when limits on workload are in place and when employers, unions and staff are able to work together collectively for the good of the whole school community.”

Mike Corbett, NASUWT Scotland National Official, said:

“The Agreement demonstrates the good working relationship at the school between unions and management and NASUWT is particularly pleased with this development in a new sector, having already successfully transferred the Scottish concept of the Working Time Agreement to the Isle of Man while working to do so in two Crown Dependencies.”
