Ill-health retirement is available to teachers who are permanently unfit to teach, defined as up to the specific teacher’s normal pension age.

If you believe that this is applicable to you, please read the guidance from the Scottish Public Pensions Agency (SPPA) about ill-health pensions, including the downloadable advice document.

In particular, please read carefully the advice from the SPPA about total incapacity benefits (TIB) and partial incapacity benefits (PIB) ill-health benefits, including the medical evidence and employment circumstances required to support a successful application.
