Despite the recent successful legal action by NASUWT-The Teachers’ Union against the Government over its unlawful decision to allow the use of agency workers to cover for striking workers, ministers have announced they will consult again on the repeal of Regulation 7 of the Conduct Regulations.

Dr Patrick Roach, NASUWT General Secretary, said:

“Despite a chastising and strong rebuke in the High Court, as well as vociferous opposition from unions and employers, it appears that ministers are resurrecting the plans with a new consultation.

“This latest proposal shows that the Government has no shame in the lengths it will go to in order to attack the legal protections for workers taking industrial action.

“Instead of respecting the recent High Court ruling and the rule of law, the Government is intent on undermining and weakening the rights of all workers, including teachers, to take legitimate industrial action.”
