Responding to confirmation from the Welsh Government that the stay at home message remains in place in Wales and there are no current plans for schools to reopen, Dr Patrick Roach, General Secretary of the NASUWT-The Teachers’ Union, said:
“The Welsh Government’s reaffirmation of the ‘stay at home’ message provides clarity for the general public and for those working in schools.
“The Welsh Government decided to close schools on public health grounds and it is right that schools not reopen until it is safe to do so.
“Schools should continue to limit their opening only to vulnerable children and to children of key workers.
“No teacher or child should be expected to go into a school that is not safe and until it can be demonstrated that it is safe for them to do so.
“The NASUWT will continue to support members in providing access to remote learning support for children who stay at home.”
