Following campaigning by the NASUWT-The Teachers’ Union to clarify the situation for hard working and dedicated supply teachers working through umbrella companies and payment under the Job Retention Scheme, the Union is pleased to see that revised advice and guidance has been issued by Government which allows for the inclusion of variable payments that are always made to be used when calculating 80% of wages.

Dr Patrick Roach, NASUWT General Secretary, said:

“The revised guidance provides much needed clarity which should mean that more umbrella companies to do the right thing by supply teachers and pay them fully rather than at 80% of National Minimum Wage.”

Members are being encouraged to contact their MP to ask them to support an Early Day Motion in Parliament that calls on the Government to ensure supply teachers are provided with the financial suport they need during the COVID-19 outbreak.
