Commenting on the UK Government’s Levelling Up Plans, Dr Patrick Roach, NASUWT General Secretary, said:
“Education is one of the most powerful tools to level up outcomes for young people and communities, but the latest levelling up plan from the UK Government does not provide a fair settlement deal for schools in every nation of the UK.
“Extra resources need to be found by political leaders to incentivise teachers to stay in the profession and action taken to remove the excessive workload burdens that are continuing to have a profoundly damaging impact on teacher recruitment, retention and morale.
Justin McCamphill, NASUWT National Official for Northern Ireland, said:
“For more than a decade, the Westminster Government has failed to recognise the value of investing beyond London and the South East of England.
“Education of young people in every area of the UK cannot be a lottery. Students and their teachers deserve a budget settlement that equips them with the resources to achieve their full potential”
