Commenting on the A-level results, Ms Chris Keates, General Secretary (Acting) of the NASUWT - The Teachers’ Union, said:

“These excellent results have been achieved by the hard work and commitment of students and their teachers, and they deserve unreserved congratulations for their efforts and achievements.

“Teachers have, once again this year, shown their determination to enable every pupil to progress and achieve, despite the increased demands and year on year cuts to education budgets.

“However, Northern Ireland’s politicians must deliver with urgency the additional investment in education that is needed to ensure that every young person has the learning conditions that enable them to realise their full potential.

“Today, young people and their teachers have delivered. It’s now time for the politicians to do the same.”

Justin McCamphill, NASUWT Northern Ireland National Official said:

“Today’s examination results demonstrate that teachers in Northern Ireland are continuing to help their students perform well in these important examinations.

“In spite of big challenges, teachers should be congratulated for doing their utmost to ensure that all students gain the knowledge and skills they will need to unlock future opportunities in the world of work or further study.”
