Commenting on the publication of the proposition on draft employment regulations, Chris Keates, General Secretary of the NASUWT-The Teachers’ Union, said:
“The NASUWT is extremely pleased the Minister for Social Security has acted on all the recommendations of the Employment Forum concerning changes to Jersey’s family-friendly employment legislation.
“The NASUWT is particular pleased that many of the comments and suggestions the Union made in its consultation submission have appeared in the final legislation.
“Family friendly employment rights must be a cornerstone of any forward looking economy, yet for far too long, Jersey’s approach lagged far behind other jurisdictions. It is commendable that the provisions contained in the proposition would mean that Jersey would be setting the standard for others to follow in this area.
“The lives of many working parents could be dramatically improved by this legislation.
“The NASUWT now urges the States Assembly to wholeheartedly support the proposition, and looks forward to the Minister bringing forward further legislation to enact the 2019 recommendations in full.”
