The Race Relations Act and the Duty to Promote Race Equality
This advice document sets out the new legal requirements imposed on schools, colleges and local authorities (LA) as a result of the Race Relations Act 1976, as amended by the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000. It provides:
- background to the duty to promote race equality;
- a review of the requirements on schools and colleges as public authorities;
- a model race equality policy for use by schools and colleges;
- a checklist of key race equality issues which need to be embedded into other school/college policies.
