Teaching and Learning in 2020

The Review captures the fundamental issues at the heart of the personalised learning debate and the topics it covers reflect many of the themes raised with NASUWT by its teacher and headteacher members. NASUWT is the largest union representing teachers and headteachers throughout the UK and, therefore, has extensive knowledge and experience of the varying educational strategies being used to raise standards across all the nations.

Personalisation is not, and should not be seen as, a response to a crisis of underachievement in the education system. Existing approaches and strategies employed by schools have delivered, and can continue to deliver, the high level of progress in standards and pupil achievement secured over the last decade.

To secure the ownership and engagement of the profession, the Review outcomes must build on, and be capable of implementation within, the established principles and provisions of school workforce remodelling and the new professionalism agenda to avoid increases in workload, working hours and bureaucracy.
