The pay and conditions of service for new teachers teaching in state maintained schools in England and Wales are set out in the School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document (STPCD). For those new teachers who are about to start their career in an academy school, the terms and conditions will be dictated by the schools themselves, this may mean academies adhere to the terms and conditions set out in the STPCD or they decide to set their own terms and conditions. Likewise new teachers teaching in Free Schools and Independent Schools should be aware that these type of schools are free to set their own terms and conditions if they so wish.
